How It All Began
Mick O'Shea Founder and Director of Film Fixers Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and the First Man In History to Explore and Navigate the Mighty Mekong River from Source to Sea with 25 years of film Making Experience in the Region.
It all began when award winning film maker, Author and internationally renowned explorer Mick O’Shea travelled mainland South East Asia extensively in the late 1990’s attempting to quench his thirst for adventure, wildlife encounters and exotic cultures. By 1999, Mick was managing field operations in peninsular Malaysia for Tracks Outdoor BHD, where, among other responsibilities he fixed Adventure and Extreme Sports film shoots in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Laos.
By 2000 Mick founded ‘Wildside Asia’, which soon emerged as one of Indochina’s leading Expedition Travel operators with 6 branch offices and over 40 staff. For film makers who preferred to venture beyond the capital cities of Thailand, Laos and Cambodia, Wildside was a natural Film Fixing partner with the network, contacts, skills and resources at hand to efficiently and effectively get things done.

In 2004 Mick decided to undertake the monumental challenge of completing the historic first ever complete exploration and navigation of the 4909 Kilometer Mekong River Mainstream from its source in Tibet to the South China Sea Via all 6 Mekong Nations. Against all odds, he succeeded while simultaneously producing, presenting and co directing the multi award winning environmental film ‘Mekong, Exploring the Mother of Waters’. The film was shot in 6 countries over the course of the 142 day expedition and was followed by Mick’s Book ‘In the Naga’s Wake’, published in several languages by Allen and Unwin Publishers.
In 2006, Mick was awarded Scoop Magazine's, 'Inspirational Young West Australian of the Year' award and a commercial expedition he designed and led through Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia was selected as National Geographic Traveler Magazine "Editors Choice for Best Trips in the World 2006', this accolade amounts to an Oscar of sorts within the Adventure Expedition Industry, there is no higher honor for an expedition designer / leader.
Mick and his team's exceptional reputations as film fixers and location managers was such that between 2007 to 2018 , it was not necessary to maintain a web presence, since they were fully booked with word of mouth recommendations from their satisfied clients. They proceeded to successfully fix over 150 international film shoots in Mainland Southeast Asia over the years and to build a team and a network of film fixing crew and resources that is second to none in the region.
Finally, in May 2018 with a growing support team of skilled fixers under his guidance, Film Fixers decided it was time to establish a web presence so that clients old and new could find them easier and the websites Film Fixers Thailand, Film Fixers Laos and Film Fixers Cambodia, www.filmfixersmekong.com were established. Today Mick and his team are in high demand for Film Fixer and Film Production Support Services in the region Mick has called home for some 24 years.
